Living near the ocean provides the surfing human all the feedback you need to plan your day right from the comfort of your cosy bed.
You wake up to the "crack-thump" sound of waves breaking on the sand. The way the branches of the red ironbark are moving ( and the rumble from the airport ) tell you that the wind is offshore. It's time to pack up the kid and the camera and head out for a surf check.
The big dirt parking lot looking out over Storm Bay is so full you need to leave the car out on the roadside. The sun is trying to make an appearance as you load the toddler into the front pack and the super-telephoto zoom onto your shoulder.
Things are looking up!
Dropping down the steps and across the rocks you see the tide is right up on the sand. Around by the elbow you know you'll be standing right up against the dunes to keep your feet dry from wave run-up. Big swell and big tide but ,up the beach, how punishing will the closeouts and how good will the barrels be?
Just one wave will make your day

Looking pretty happy with a wave in the sun.
